Overview

NOVA’s Financial Lab is a free, online educational resource, created by WGBH PBS NOVA, the Center for Advanced Hindsight at Duke University, and Thought Cafe which launched in February of 2022. The lab features a series of games designed to help students (and adults!) understand how we humans make financial decisions, and how to develop habits to overcome the behavioral biases that often get in our way. Think of it as a fun, safe place to practice managing your spending, paying off debts, and investing in your future.

Stats

Since launching in 2022, we’ve had over 100,000 users visit the lab and play the games and we’re growing every month. The lab can be found on various educational platforms, such as the CEE and NGPF, or accessed directly at NOVA Labs.

Partnerships

The Enterprising Women Foundation’s Young Enterprising Women events which are hosted around the country every year to teach high school girls about financial literacy, utilizes the NOVA labs as a main feature in their financial literacy program. This year (2024/25) we are hosting events in 26 cities and conducting short- and long-term evaluations on the efficacy of the program on important outcomes, such as budgeting, saving, and investing.
